The Church Sends People to Share the Gospel

May 31, 2026    Tim Riley

Paul and Barnabas are set apart by the Holy Spirit through fasting and prayer, and sent by their church to take the Gospel to new places. The confrontation with Elymas the sorcerer in Acts 13 demonstrates how spiritual blindness can manifests physically. This begs us to examine our own spiritual blind spots. Most significantly, Paul's first sermon declares the revolutionary truth that through Jesus alone comes forgiveness of sins—something the law of Moses could never fully provide. This message spread like wildfire because ordinary people couldn't keep quiet about what Jesus had done for them. We're challenged to recognize that the gospel is inherently offensive because it demands a response. There's no neutral ground when confronted with Jesus—our silence is actually a 'no.' The call for us today is clear: stop trying to earn God's love through performance, dig deep roots in our relationship with Him, and let the natural fruit of that relationship overflow to others around us.
