Paul on the Island of Malta

What does it look like to trust God's promises even when a snake is literally hanging from your hand? In this closing chapter of our journey through Acts, we find Paul shipwrecked on the island of Malta, surrounded by strangers who show him unusual kindness. When Paul is suddenly bitten by a viper, the islanders assume the worst, certain that divine justice has finally caught up with a criminal. But Paul simply shakes the snake into the fire and moves on. There is something deeply instructive in that moment. Paul was not rattled because he already knew how his story was going to unfold. God had promised to get him to Rome, and a snake bite was not going to change that. How often do we allow the unexpected disruptions of life to pull our eyes away from what God has already spoken over us? This passage calls us to a settled confidence, not because life will be easy, but because the One who made the promise is faithful to keep it. From Malta to Rome, every step of the journey reinforces the same truth: the Lord does not abandon the people He has called. The same Spirit that carried Paul through storms, imprisonments, and shipwrecks is the very Spirit available to us today. That is not a small thing. That is everything.
